I Hate My Job

Dear Customer Service: First of all, you should know that I’m typing this with my middle finger.

Working in customer service can really be a terrible thing. A lot of people who work in my field on any level will probably tell me the same thing.

At the end of the day, we hate our job. It’s not so much of the job itself really, but rather the people that you have to deal with on a daily basis.

When we initially take a job in customer service, we expect that we will be helping people. But, we don’t expect to have to deal with assholes who have nasty attitudes and feel like they can talk to us any kind of way. To us, that type of stuff isn’t acceptable, and quite frankly, we’re not kissing anyone’s behind.

Do you ever get customers who are angry and upset because of something someone else did and they take it out on you? Yea, slow your roll there buddy, all that’s not necessary (that’s what we tell ourself while trying to avoid cursing them out like we never learned anything else). It’s okay for a customer to come asking you for help, but all the attitudes and rudeness won’t cut it. We don’t put up with it from anyone else, so this random customer really won’t make the difference.

But, we’ve got to get back to the reality of the situation. If you curse them out, and really give them what they deserve, we’d be out of a job probably quicker than we can blink. So, we have to suck up that frustration and bear their nonsense.

Ah, the joys of customer service. Seems like there are none. We only have hatred for our job, and we dread it every day we have to go to work. If it weren’t for the people we deal with, the ignorant ones, then our job might be okay. Sadly, though, those people aren’t going anywhere. There will always be people who don’t know how to approach others when they have a problem, and because we work in customer service, we just have to deal with it. Or, we can always find something else that we enjoy doing, then we wouldn’t have to hate our job anymore. Choices…choices.
